I have always loved reading. I have always loved writing.
In an attempt to keep up and combine both, this blog.
I plan to post every couple of days with updates on what I'm reading,
how it's going and what I think of books once I finish them.
Hopefully somebody will read and respond to my comments.
At the moment I am reading:
- An Experiment in Autobiography by H.G. Wells
- The Aeneid by Virgil (prose trans. by David West)
- Notes from the Underground by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
- Complete Works of Arthur Rimbaud
Wells was very interesting to begin with, especially his contemplative
introduction. The main body is a little dry but I am ploughing through
it at intervals between reading other books.
My Virgil is very good, although I feel I am cheating a little with a prose
translation. At least it raises questions of faithfulness in translation. I
find it hard to read for extended periods though, as it lacks the internal
element I have come to expect as a modern reader.
Dostoyevsky I have started only today, so I haven't got much to say about
it. I think I'm going to enjoy it.
Having previously read Rimbaud's Illuminations, I bought the Complete
Works and I'm glad I did. Although, I am only dipping into it at present,
and not making a full-scale assault.
Well, here goes the attempt...
Hopefully it will be as easy as 123
